Grade 6
6th grade students are reading realistic fictional stories.
The focus is on character traits and analyzing a character's  thoughts, actions, and dialogue to help us determine the personalities of our characters.

Grade 7

7th grade students are reading both fiction and nonfiction texts that have similar topics.

The purpose of this is to make comparisons between each of the topics in the way they are presented in each text. Also, students will learn how nonfiction texts can influence fictional stories.

Grade 8

  • 8th grade students are reading expository texts and discovering theme.

  • We are also learning about writer's perspective when reading nonfiction texts, and searching for strong pieces of evidence that support the writer's claim.

  • Students will also synthesize the texts and create new meaning once we have pieced all of the information together.

  • We will learn what it means to have an effective argument when debating a topic.
