Below are useful educational websites that I have used to scaffold many of my reading comprehension lessons. The materials found on these websites support reading comprehension in a variety of subjects, too. Enjoy!

 

Newsela - Filled with nonfiction literacy and current events articles. Topics include War & Peace, Science, Kids, Money, Law, Health, Arts, and an option to search for other topics. Great for any subject area!

BrainPOP - Brainpop has lots of topics to explore such as Science, Math, English, Social Studies, Health, Engineering and Technology. Videos and quizzes can help scaffold topics and reinforce information as well. BrainPOP Jr. is also available for the younger grades.

Read Works - The materials on this site are all Common Core aligned. Find fiction and nonfiction passages on here as well as question sets. There is something for all subject area teachers on here as well. Get started by registering, and, it's free!

Read Write Think - Support reading instruction in the content areas with materials from this site.  A variety of graphic organizers are included on this site as well as interactive activities for students as well.

K-12 Reader - Search through a variety of reading worksheets that focus on a variety of topics such as sight words, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and grammar. Writing materials can also support writing instruction as well. It is also content area friendly and includes themed worksheets, and you can also find graphic organizer worksheets on here.

Foreign Language Resources - There are 11 featured websites on this page that can assist teachers of a second language. Included are audio recordings for word pronunciation and phonetics, creating your own dictionary for vocabulary, video clips, learning about different cultures, current events articles, and dialogue exercises!
